He conspired against America to commit high treason, then sentenced POWs to death.
Like father like son, his dad is the one who carried out the false flag attack on the USS Liberty in order to trick America into going to war against Egypt on behalf of Israel. Luckily he was foiled by people who don't hate America.
I've visited the PoW camp he stayed in while in Hanoi, not a terribly place for the US soldiers but when the French ran it it was awful for the Vietnamese.
McCain was captured and tortured for years by the Communist enemy
They beat him and broke his body nearly beyond repair
He never turned tail and he remained wih his lads in a mudhole until the war ended, despite being offered an easy way out much earlier
Yes, by all means, lets humiliate and dishonor an American Hero with our keyboard sarcasm now
For shame kelly...hope you had a fine chuckle at a good mans expense.
McCain was a great hero, a fine patriotic American man and politics be damned, he did more for this great nation than most of us ever will
You should think about your priorities and values...the 'joke' you made was not funny and it was ill-timed
Also, dont post links that are not clickable
Get your shit together Mr Thrilling
The only Republican in at least two decades who had integrity and wasn't bought-and-paid by Big Money Wrong Wing Donors. Way before this sad day I embraced JMcC as a conscientious, thoughtful person.
Really appreciated when some audience member was trying to say how much she didn't trust Obama, he wasn't trustworthy.
He said - You're wrong. He's a good American with Family Values. You are wrong.
Love this guy. And I'm just waiting for the Haters to start piling on.
Im not a political person, i just vote how i do and rarely mention it
But McCain felt special to me
He was a great family man, a tried and proven warrior, a politician who held hands with his opposite numbers when he thought it was right for our country...we should be so lucky to see this sort of fellow again in our lifetime
God better be listening...God Bless John McCain
Yeah that's the image I have of McCain in my mind too, in the 2008 general election, refusing the opportunity to exploit race or xenophobia for political gain. He deliberately took the high road even when egged on by his supporters to pivot the other way. He refused and set his audience straight. Even if it ultimately cost him the win, he didn't want to win that way.
That is the McCain I remember. Class personified and so lacking in today's politics, he'll be sorely missed.
Eight years before that he was undone in the South Carolina Republican primaries by Karl Rove dirty tricks. Rove had his goons flyer the parking lots of white churches the day before the primaries with an ugly race baiting rumor that McCain's adopted black infant daughter was his love child from a liaison with a black hooker. He was leading in the primaries up to that point but the false rumor sunk him. Losing South Carolina was the beginning of the end of McCain's primary run against Bush in 2000. In my opinion, he should have easily wiped the floor with the less experienced and far less polished Dubya.
But he never internalized that lesson by turning around to exploit racial fault lines 8 years later when he might have ridden it to victory. It just hardened his resolve that he would never stoop to those depths to win. And for that I will forever respect the man. He was the last giant of a near extinct species in congress ... the principled conservative.
RIP John McCain. I almost voted for him in 2008, but went with Obama instead. Either way, I have the upmost respect for him. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to last 5 1/2 years in a POW Camp, but he did.
Anyone that uses someones death to spread hate is a despicable human being. Not the time or the place.
Damn right
They broke his arm, kicked and whipped him...this went on for 5 years
The man never broke
Its pretty disgusting that Some people are having a laugh at his expense...little chubby keyboard warriors, safe behind their screens
A disgusting and worthless bunch of HALO toughguys
I will remember their handles, every stinking one of them.
Very kind words Padeen
I respect that you left politics out of it...i feel the same way
I did vote for McCain, i thought he was the level headed hero that we needed(obviously, we lost...)
Obama was OK if a bit dorky and annoying...but he turned out OK
I would vote for McCain again...i thought he was a magnificent fellow and a great American
Not gonna lie...i got a bit teary eyed when i heard of this great man's passing...God dont make too many heroes in one's lifetime
What can I say? He was a fighter until the end. Probably endured those harsh cancer treatments even though the prognosis wasn't good. He was a tough bastard.
Had he won in 08, I think he would have made a fine President. I'm sure Obama feels the same way.
Yes, im certain he gave The Reaper a good beating until his last breath...and if there is a God and im pretty certain there is then God better bless him
McCain will be a legend, always.
Obama wasnt my pick but he does seem to be a classy and intelligent guy so you are probably right
He effed up running with Palin, though. Maybe it made sense at the time, in some weird way, but she quickly became the butt of a lot of self-inflicted buffoonery. Hard to take that ticket seriously. But Trump and Pence managed to confirm the Peter Principle, so who knows?
What I don't like is that someone who has lived the horrors of war, said "now let's go after Iraq" when Afghanistan was invaded following 9/11. Nobody was even talking about Iraq and then him, and his buddies, got the President to go after a nation that had zero to do with 9/11. Over 600,000 deaths are attributed to that invasion. Was it worth it? The world certainly isn't safer as a result. Iraq is where ISIS was born.
I found it odd McCain embracing platforms that ok'd questionable interrogation techniques that he previously opposed from colleagues on the grounds of his personal experiences relating to torture. It's understandable to make compromises for political expediency but it felt like he had to turn his back on his values to save face, whether he intended to follow through on the proceedings or not.
