You might have a decent point about more children needed. Perhaps it's a population thing too. Attitudes towards sex seem to be more relaxed when a population increase is needed. China went as far as to have abortions if the baby was going to be female, they also had that one-child only policy for many years. Of course, they have over a billion people.
Can't say I'm an expert on EVERY society throughout world history but generally speaking, attitudes towards sex in my lifetime has been up and down. lol.. no pun intended.
I remember back in the 70s and 80s, people really didn't care when girls started having sex, I mean, I knew several girls in high school that were actually sleeping with older guys like in their 20s and 30s and no one batted an eye over it, some might have found it controversial but still didn't have very much concern over it. Now, it would be seen as some sort of major offense.
Attitudes towards gay and lesbian sex has changed a lot too. Back then, people weren't real fond of the idea of two guys going at it but now its almost encouraged and celebrated.
I do think that generally speaking, sex has gotten a bad rap for a long time. But of course, it really depends on the society you grow up in.

Means also, we become old. *ahem*
And even tough relocated to the "big dangerous city" (as my family said) I stayed a "boring hetero" (as some city dwellers said).
