Wow. Just realized he is not American.

So I'm just recently started watching the Walking Dead and finished all the seasons on Netflix.

I thought they picked someone from a particular region in the South like around Georgia, Louisiana or Alabama or thereabouts. His southern US accent is impeccably accurate IMO.

Some of his enunciation did seem off like "Carl" - how he pronounced that. But I took it as a regional southern dialect.

Then last night I saw his video on Youtube and my mind was blown. He was speaking in a very British accent and I then looked him up on IMDb and realized he is actually British!!!!

Wow....

I actually prefer his American accent rather than his British because I first heard him speak that. That is now embedded in my head for him.

Also, he looks quite like Viggo Mortensen.

Looking forward to Season 5 and his "Kar-lllllll" and his dragged out southern accent.

Same here. My mind was blown too.

Not only his accent but his southern mannerisms too. The way he would hold his head and his stance. My mother is southern and I was raised in the south and he is spot on!

Made me respect as an amaaaaaazing actor and his craft is practiced to perfection.

I saw a video of him on youtube where he stated that the whole time he's shooting The Walking Dead he never breaks from his American accent! He speaks in it constantly, even to his family! Then when he goes home to Britain he reverts back to his British accent. I think living in the South for 6 months out of the year and working around so many Southern Americans has really helped him perfect the mannerisms and speech. He's 95 percent of of why I watch The Walking Dead and as long as he is anchoring the show I always watch.

Agree, gshunw,

He is the reason I watch The Walking Dead - Marvelous actor on a marvelous show. His accent is spot on.

I totally agree. I have read many comments about Andrew Lincoln's British accent in interviews and so I have avoided watching any behind-the-scenes footage.

The actress who plays Maggie Greene also has a British accent and I had made the mistake of watching her in an interview and had stopped. But the damage was already done. Once I was exposed to the actresses real accent I could detect slight traces of it in TWD episodes.

I am a huge The Walking Dead fan and I don't want to be exposed to anything that will contribute to breaking my suspension of disbelief.

BTW, it's strange how British thespians are so convincing with American accents but American thespians are totally unconvincing at playing characters with British accents. Just awful. I wonder if other British viewers discern British thespians who are imitating American accents.

I have followed Andrew since his work in 'Teachers', which you all should check out. VERY funny show. He was the lead then and just adorable. I had no interest in this show until I saw an ad online a few days ago and saw this gruff looking man holding a rifle and thought 'Wait, is that Andrew Lincoln?' haha. So of course i checked it out and loved it. I am so shocked he is doing this show. It's so different to anything else he's done. I mean really I would never have guessed, but he's such a good actor and evokes such sympathy he can do anything. I love his charater on the show, of course, and now i love this show. As for his accent I wish he could use his own accent on this show, but oh well, wouldn't make sense haha.

Yeah I just watch for him and Carol, both great characters and great actors

Like the view? It's the only thing you'll be catching tonight
