I would agree New York is far from the center of the universe... but then so is Hong Kong.
Reality is with technology allowing people to connect from afar all cities have lost their importance. Frankly the world would be a better place if elevators were banned and every sky scraper was torn down. Large cities do nothing of value today and create a huge problem with massive concentrations of people into a small area. Want to see pandemics spread quickly? Look in a city with the highest concentrations of people per square mile. Cities are a threat to humanity.
As for Stan Lee what was someone that had lived so many years in New York supposed to do write comics about thing happening in Dallas, London or Moscow? A writer writes about places he is familiar with, when someone in Hong Kong is able to craft a story of their own they can set it in Hong Kong, but right now all you get from Hong Kong and China are ripoffs of western stories because the Chinese are too stupid to come up with anything on their own the just make bad copies of western things.
