phony or real martial artist?

does this actor even have a martial arts background or is he just a 'pretty face'? I have tried to research him but found no evidence of any training...... just show me I am a skeptic.

I hear he practices taekwondo

He's not a martial artist. He's an actor. He's famous in South Korea for being a Korean movie star. Hollywood is just giving him these roles.

Ehm yes and no. Watch a bittersweet life and even before that. This guy may not be professional martial artist but he does have very talented fighting skills. You can see it the way he moves, it's very fluid. I mean according to other actors like Keanu Reeves who really looks like like a klutz while performing his fighting.

reply

Do you ask this for all actors? Or do you expect this guy to be a martial artist just because he's Asian? Did you ask if Hillary Swank is a real boxer?

reply

Hillary took serious boxing lessons.

I'm sure the question is being asked bc Byung has played several characters who are fighters/assassins. It's a reasonable question. I, also, like to think that the characters I see in movies have legitimate fighting skills and are performing their own stunts and fight scenes.

reply

I'm guessing that he does lots of training before each movie. And he seems pretty damn good at it. Actresses Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang weren't Martial Artists, they were dancers. But they seem completely convincing in their movies.

its called typecasting. Its no surprise that Hollywood only hire Asian actors to portray grocery store owners or ninjas.

reply

Every Asian knows kung-fu... and every man with a beard is Poseidon :)
