I hated the lobster. Is dogtooth that bad? Seems a consensus here. Seen it on my feed, but hadn't watched it. Poor things I liked. Haven't seen the others, but may watch The favorite now that I just saw Poor things.
shareIMHO, Dogtooth is still his best film. It won the Prix un Certain Regard at Cannes, which isn't necessarily a mark of quality but they tend to award genuinely interesting films. Dogtooth is basically the key text of the Greek Weird Wave and it's an uncomfortable watch -- so it's divisive. A darker brand of comedy than his English language stuff.
It's probably his least accessible movie, other than perhaps the experimental Kinetta, which simply isn't any good.
In short, I wouldn't be put off by people's low scores. It's certainly worth watching. It's probably a love it or hate it scenario, so you'll go one way or the other on it -- but there's no consensus here, so it's well worth finding out for yourself.
I saw The Favorite tonight. Again a movie the trailers and poster didn't lure me into when it came out (plus any poster that has the Lobster style motif turns me off..lol). I'd agree with the consensus here. Solid 7-8 for The Favorite, but I like Poor things more. That movie stuck with me more. Dogtooth will be next.
next day
I watched Dogtooth. Wasn't expecting subtitles nor anything else about it, but I enjoyed it overall. I think I'll pick up more on a second watching for sure. I can see why people don't like it, but you have to come at it from a different mindset.
Ok, I just heard about Kinds of Kindness. Not on anyone's list here. Hoping to see it soon. Sounds like it sat on the shelf for a year. Seen it yet?
Poor things
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
The Favourite
Dogtooth

Watched them all in one week. Started to watch Alps, but didn't finish yet. Audio was out of sync and subtitled.
