Met him today

I went with my Art class to see his play, "The Glorious Ones" in Pittsburgh. It also stars John Kassir (The voice of "The Crypt Keeper"), Paul Schoeffler (from some A&E Peter Pan movie) and a few others. A great play. I leaned over to my buddy and said, "Hey, its T-Bird."

When it was over, they did a Q-and-A bit with a bunch of us. I asked him and Kassir what kind of roles they preferred: villainous roles or comedic ones. He said, "I like comedic-villains." Everyone laughed. He was cracking jokes the entire time and even walked around with a history book, reminding us of what era the play was set.

Afterward, I went down and shook his hand, and told him he did a good job. He said, "Much obliged, partner."

A really cool guy. He's older now and everything, but the voice he uses on film is not exaggerated. Its his normal speaking-voice.

You are so lucky! He's one of my favorite actors, it would be awesome to get to see him in something. He's usually on Broadway, tho, was he touring with that play?

I looked up that play and its apparently a sort of "out of town broadway try-out." I think DP Kelly has always been committed to doing all kinds of theater tho, he's won awards in new york for doing "avant garde theater."

Thats really cool that you got to meet him!

I am wondering what he is doing in that tv show with ray stevenson from ROME and amber tamblyn? "Babylon Fields?" that is GREAT CAST!!

Wow. I haven't looked at this since I graduated.

But, yeah, he was one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Every other cast member left after the Q&A (John Kassir was a smartass with some people), but he stuck around to meet us. He really wanted to meet the actors and talk to them about his craft.

One cool thing that I forgot to mention in the first post is the fact that he said he did work as a street-magician when he was about 17. He told us that he always knew he'd get into acting, as he had a gift for dealing with people. It surprised me, since he LOOKS like the type of guy that would have become a hoodlum. All he could do is compliment people. He even smiled when I talked to him and said I had a nice shirt (a purple, silk dress shirt if I remember right).

I intended on seeing the play again, but never did. Its cool because, since he's usually "that guy" in a lot of his movies, I'll see him in a movie or something and say, "Hey... I met that guy. I can't believe he's done films with other actors who are pretty famous."

His family is brilliant. His brother is my boss and has a Master's from Harvard and his PhD from West Point. From what I gather, brains are not in short supply in his family. His brother is very very nice too. I've worked for him for 9 years now and we've always gotten along really well.

Thanks for posting that. I love his work and it's great to hear he is a great guy too.
