It's sooo amazing!

Tom Hardy has reached new heights of stardom, he's being compared to Tom Cruise.

The discussion revolved around Hardy using lifts for his fight scenes with Bale. Some people had a problem understanding why Hardy gets lauded while Cruise gets ridiculed for doing the same thing. why? Tom Cruise is the epitome rugged masculinity. If he threatened me, I would be so scared I'd tell him to pull my finger.

In his latest film, Cruise is Steven Seagal - an invincible fighting machine. In Out For Justice, Seagal took on legendary stuntman Nick Dimitri. Cruise with his awesome powers would dispatch Dmitri in mere seconds. Too bad Hardy and Dimitri are of different generations, I can see them becoming fast friends.

The TDKR fight scenes where excellent on part with perhaps the best fight scene of them all: Charles Bronson vs Nick Dimitri.

I don't buy Cruise as a badass at all. Five guys running away from him in Jack Reacher just looks silly to me. Hardy is far more believable as a tough guy people would be intimidated by.

And it's not a matter of physical size. Hardy may sometimes be more muscular than Cruise, but he's hardly the biggest guy in the world either. It's the "don't *beep* with me" presence he puts off.

The reason Hardy does not get ridiculed is because he had to wear lifts in order to do that particular role because Bane and Batman had to be face to face in fight scenes or so Mr. Nolan wanted and it was no secret. I don't think Cruise will ever admit to wearing lifts which is suspected to be all the time not just on movie sets. Does Hardy - he tends to wear sneakers with the thick soles but so do millions of people.

In terms of scary at this point in time I think Hardy > Cruise. I just saw a tweet from a Scottish guy saying I am going to go all Tom Hardy on you, as a threat, though he was in fact joking, but even a big burly Scottish guy sees Tom Hardy = scary tough. I doubt the younger generation would see Tom Cruise as scary tough though he is probably the hardest working actor in show biz - though Mr. Hardy is figuratively nipping at his heels.

You don't necessarily have to be physically huge to be intimidating, it's all about the attitude. Hardy pulls it off, Cruise doesn't IMO.

Hell, Judi Dench is intimidating and she's 81 years old and like five feet tall. If looks could kill, she could shoot a man dead at ten paces.

Tom Cruise? "Rugged masculinity"? I'm dying of laughter. Tom Hardy can pull off badass because at one point, he was living a real badass life. Tom Cruise can make as many big budget action flicks as studios will allow but even he wishes he could channel the same amount of badassery in his roles as Tom Hardy does. Tom Hardy is about 100 times better an actor as well.

LOL so true. You made me laugh because Tracey Ullman does a killer Dame Judi Dench impression and she is a character on her new comedy show which I have been watching recently. Tracey is also not afraid to do male characters hmmm.

The difference between Tom Hardy and Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise cannot be true to himself, essential for an actor to develop. As such he's taking on overblown roles to hide his McActing. He's also become evermore anal retentive. Tom Hardy nearly going River Phoenix was actually a blessing in disguise. It allowed him to take stock of his life and start fresh, most importantly, he learned how to channel his energy.

I suspect that Hardy and Claire Danes had ADD in their childhoods. Danes used to annoy the stronzo out of me. After Terminator: Rise of the Machines her career stalled. Instead of taking solace in booze and drugs, she took acting lessons. She learned how to channel her hyper nature. She's blown me away in Homeland.

That's two memorable roles Rupert Friend has been in. He was also the tattoo artist in Jessica Chastain's film debut: Jolene.

I friend of mine called Nurse Ratchett (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) the greatest villain of the 20th Century. So I sent him a clip of Louise Fletcher in Shameless.
