He wuz ROBBED
Hardy's "Revenant" performance stood head-and-shoulders above that of Mark Rylance's in "Bridge of Spies," so I'm mystified by all the hoopla surrounding Rylance and the lack of such regarding Hardy.

shareHaving seen both, I agree with you completely.
shareAs do I..
shareHe was good, but I don't think that it was an Oscar winning performance.

And not even a mention for "Legend" which was a genius.
shareAs a long-time fan of Hardy, and someone who has been waiting for him to get an Oscar nod for years, I have to say that I respectfully disagree. He was good in The Revenant, but some of his other performances have been much more worthy of a nom and/or win. He paints with pretty broad strokes here, whereas Rylance is beautifully understated and precise. It never once remotely feels like acting. Rylance deserves his award.

Why don't you take a pill, bake a cake, go read the encyclopaedia.
Hardy was much better in Legend, even if The Revenant overall was a better movie.

Wrong Raylance deserved his Zeke.
The Revenant was a better film than Legend but not by much. At first it appeared the AGI was going to give us the irrefutable classic that I've been waiting for - instead he blows the lot. Surely the death of his friend and saviour should have been enough for Glass to get even with the Frenchies. Adding a rape scene was unnecessary and melodramatic. Cheapening the film and marginalizing Hikuc at the same time.

Mark Rylance deserved his Oscar. I enjoyed the Fitzgerald performance, it was startling and menacing but if it wasn't going to get the little golden statue then I was pleased as punch Rylance's performance had the winning ticket. It was subtle, yet sly and so skilful in the most masterful way....he stole every scene he was in.
