Hardy's best performance?

So, Tom Hardy is one of those actors who was hardly a blip on the radar one year and then became a massive star the next. People keep saying how he is one of the best actors working today and in the leagues of De Niro and such. As of now, I am unable to see it. Don't get me wrong, he is a really great actor. I just don't get a lot of the hype surrounding him, but I've only seen his biggest movies [Mad Max, Dark Knight Rises, Inception, The Revenant, (and that movie with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine)].

Is there a movie/performance out there that I missed where it shows how super incredible he is?

I'm not being rude, just curious and willing to be educated on his brilliance.

Legend, Bronson, Locke, The Take, The Drop, and Warrior are the best ones to watch that showcase his talent the best. I also hear that he's great in a movie called Stuart: A Life Backwards, but I haven't seen it yet.

Hardy is an great performer in many aspects, which is why I find it hard to pick one or two performances that stand out. They stand out in different ways. He can be an excellent non-verbal performer -- someone who can convey a lot with his eyes and body language only -- or he can perform an entire monologue that keeps you on the edge of your seat. He can play quiet and unassuming, or loud and foul-mouthed. Everything is so layered with each character as well, which is something I really appreciate when watching an actor.

Top 3:

Bronson,
The Drop,
The Take.

Bronson is the one that initially made me respect him as an actor.

I think he's amazing in all of his roles, but those three are some that show off his range.

I've heard Bronson mentioned several times before in this connection, and I think you just made it #1 or 2 on my which-DVD-do-I-buy-first list (The Dark Knight Rises is the other front-runner). Since seeing The Drop I realize I have a lot of catching up to do. Tom Hardy is the Marlon Brando/James Dean/Robert DeNiro/(you get the idea) of the 21st century. The Drop is an addiction; every time I watch it I pick up some little "bit of business" I had missed before. A masterpiece, no 2 ways about it.

The Drop is my favorite movie of Tom's, and Bob is my favorite character he plays as well. He was just brilliant with portraying the nuance of the character. It's definitely the film of his I enjoy watching the most. And I totally agree, it's great noticing different things every time. I love it more and more each time.
