I'm really enjoying Emily Hampshire's work on 12 Monkeys. I've seen a lot of shows where there's a 'crazy' character type, and I've felt that only a handful have succeeded in playing the roles convincingly - as there's more to it than just spouting 'crazy talk'. I feel that Emily's performance has succeeded where quite a lot fail and she's not just acting 'nuts'/saying a whole bunch of nonsensical gibberish. I think there's a lot more to her character and Emily's put her own spin on the role. Having said that, I can see slight hints of Brad Pitt's portrayal from the movie - not so much that it's copying him, just enough to acknowledge the previous incarnation of the role.
I'm glad to hear she's been bumped up to regular status in the show for next season. Looking at her IMDB list of credits, it appears she's been in loads of stuff...just none of which I've seen, sadly - which is odd, considering when I first saw her on the show, I felt she looked strangely familiar to me. As has been mentioned in the 'Looks like...' thread, I think on different occasions/from certain angles she alternates between resembling Kate Mara and Tatiana Mislany (infact, her role as Jennifer kind of reminds me of a non-Russian and slightly less crazy Helena from Orphan Black).
I can't say I've heard of/seen that other show she's in which you mentioned. The only other example of an actor playing two major roles in two TV shows at the same time that I can think of off the top of my head is Daniel Gillies - who I know from The Originals (and before that, TVD) and who also apparently has a main role in a show called Saving Hope (which I don't watch). So it can be done, it just requires both shows working around the actor's schedule/availability, I guess.
