Kind of cruel or totally cruel? Kind of I can live with.
Vegans give up meat because months/years of suffering of an animal is not worth 5 - 30 minutes the diner gets eating that animal. Animals, birds and fish are sentient beings. They have all been observed doing things that are beyond survival and mating which indicate feelings. Last thought - you'd never eat your cat or dog? Why eat any meat? It is beyond a doubt that meat and dairy are unhealthy. Ecologically, it makes no sense to take an acre of land and get 60 lbs of meat when you can get 30,000 lbs of carrots, for example. World hunger would be solved in a snap if everyone ate veggies. And there is a lot more.

Besides do you have any idea how many "sentient" beings get killed from growing, fertilizing and harvesting those veggies? Just because you don't ingest the animal doesn't mean your diet don't kill tonnes of animals every year.
Eat what you want I don't care, but stop acting all high and mighty and preaching like a religious zealot telling other people what to do. Overpopulation is the problem not our diets!
