Crazy that he still has just ONE Oscar nomination

Jake Gyllenhaal was criminally underrated until a few years ago. Finally - thanks to his performances in Nightcrawler, Southpaw, Prisoners, Enemy, etc. - he's getting more of the recognition that he deserves. However, the fact that he hasn't been nominated since Brokeback Mountain is absolutely insane. The fact that he wasn't nominated for Nightcrawler specifically was one of the biggest Oscar snubs in recent memory.

The reason I'm writing this post is because I included Gyllenhaal in my Top 10 Best Actors Without Oscars video on my new YouTube channel. Not Crazy....a downright SHAME IMO. I agree with you. His Oscar snub for Nightcrawler has to go down in history.

He should have been nominated for Prisoners, but for damn sure he should have gotten a nod and a win for Nightcrawler.

What's great though is he continues to challenge himself rather than just resting on his laurels and cashing in on some crappy film projects

Agreed. His performance in Nightcrawler is the best leading actor performance of 2014. Too bad it wasn't as Oscar-baity as Redmayne's, although it was far more daring and interesting.

I have yet to see Redmayne in Theory of Everything. I did see him in The Danish girl and he's a beast of an actor...for the first hour. Then you can just cut it off.

Gyllenhaal absolutely deserved a nomination for Nightcrawler. I really enjoyed him in Southpaw as well. It's a shame the movie wasn't half as good as his performance.

It is crazy that he has only one Oscar nomination and he should have won for that instead of that insipid George Clooney.
