Directing Freaks of the Heartland

So it looks like his next film will be Freaks of the Heartland.

"We know him best for Pineapple Express, but director David Gordon Green actually has much more independent impulses. His previous film, Snow Angels, was dark and dramatic, and he coaxed Kate Beckinsale's best performance in years. Prior to that, he made the overlooked horror movie Undertow, in which he coaxed the best performance we've seen out of Josh Lucas, not that it would take much.

Now Green will adapt the horror thrilla Freaks of the Heartland, based on the graphic novel by 30 Days of Night writer Steve Niles. The Hollywood Reporter says Overture Films recently purchased the rights to the graphic novel and will produce and release the film.

What, pray tell, could a title as memorable as Freaks of the Heartland be describing? Apparently, a bunch of mutant children are born in the tiny town of Gristlewood Valley, and one boy tries to protect his six-year-old younger brother"

What kind of film do you think it will be? I have never read the comic. I could see him doing a Days of Heaven/horror movie mix to this.

I would love to see him tackle this in a Malick sort of way. Onelinedrawing, since uve read it can you tell me if the "freaks" could be done without CGI? I honestly have no idea about the comic so that might be a dumb question but I really dont want to see some bad CGI in this.

Ya he definetly doesn't seem like someone who would use CGI. I am just wondering how much control he will have over this project. I am seriously hoping it doesnt turn at like I am Legend because I completely agree with you. I mean how much better would that film of been and scary if they had used actors.

well, let's hope DGG can make something from this story. Steve Niles does not really write good comics, he just comes up with great ideas for stories that could be make into good comics. Hopefully, Green will make something special of the comics that are just kind of alright.
