DGG is a hypocrite

When DGG first came on the scene, he was all about the art and making Malik-like flims and etc.. He talked crap about Kevin Smith and the type of movies KS makes about slackers and now DGG has made Pinneapple Express AND now that crap with Knights and James Franco in it. Some stupid comedy.

DGG sold his soul to the studios after PE and now he's churning out the same crap as everyone else in hollywood.

What a waste.

"Wassa mook?"

He does what he enjoys. Only so many of us can hope to do that.

I agree.

Not only did he bag on a far more superior filmmaker in Kevin Smith who by the way is a genius with Clerks and Dogma, he is a wannabe Malik who makes inferior "art" films. KS has world class talent in his writing, DDG has no talent but trying be the only one to copy a grandmaster like Malik since everyone else copies Scorsese.

When times got tough and no one cared for his fourth rate Malik copied films, he sold out to the studios. This guy in his interviews thinks he's above it all by saying that he didn't like Star Wars or Indiana Jones.

This guys films will be forgotten. A real auteur takes his artistic vision and makes the big studios fund his films. That's why Scorsese, Altman, and Malik are great. Even though he has the actors, he cant' get the audience to buy his vision.

Can you provide a link to the interview when he said he didn't like Star Wars or Indiana Jones?

It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

"a far more superior filmmaker in Kevin Smith"

Sorry. I have to stop right there. Are you serious?

Terrible comment.

Ok, I enjoyed Pineapple Express for what it was.. but this 'Your Highness' crap just killed it for me. What happened to quality films like All the Real Girls and Undertow? Come on, DGG.

It looks like he's finally getting back in his old groove with the upcoming "The Sitter"!

He hasn't "sold his soul" -- let's not be hyperbolic about it!

He simply has bent over to the lowest common denominator in Hollywood faster and taking it harder than any previous "indie/art" director in recent memory.

His whore hole is already so stretched out, I honestly don't think there's a place for sensitive little human character studies anymore. His soul is recoverable, but his interest in making "Personal" cinema seems to be a thing of the past, although that too is not unthinkable to return to.

Since I never much cared for any of his movies ('All the Real Girls' is the only I'd see twice) I have no dog in the fight.

He's definitely no higher in the respectable class that happy hacks like Brett Ratner or Kevin Smith.

Those who try to make distinctions between education & entertainment know little of either.

If he continues down this path, it won't be long before the studios stop trusting him to direct comedies and he won't be receiving much work in Hollywood any longer. Both Your Highness and The Sitter have bombed financially and I highly doubt they'll give him another opportunity. He's turned into a lazy stoner and its clear that his highest aspiration in life is to hang around movie sets with his best friends rather than commit himself to a serious project.

If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive.
