PE was a God awful mess - PLEASE NO SUSPIRIA

Frankly, I don't see what anyone likes about DGG's skills as a director, and I have zero confidence in the Suspiria remake. I thought Pineapple Express was just an absolute mess, full of pacing and plausibility problems, for a start. Parts almost made it seem like it had been conceived in a blender, from a stock of "funny ideas" they were determined to get in to the film, no matter how poorly they fit together. I guess if crap makes money that is all that matters. I just wish they keep the crap makers away from remakes of genuine art.

Have you seen any of DGG's other movies? I don't think you would be saying any of this if you did...

I agree that Pineapple Express was pretty terrible and Suspiria is a unique film so an American hatchet-job isn't a thrilling prospect.

Pineapple express was not horrible by any means. It felt and looked like an NCSA alumni film.

While I agree that PINEAPPLE EXPRESS is heavily flawed, I think the original poster is clueless about the directing skills of DAVID GORDON GREEN... His earlier films are all amazing and proof that he is one of the most talented American filmmakers around...

If you want to point fingers for the mess that is PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, try directing your hatred towards that awful screenplay written by ROGEN and GOLDBERG... They wrote this in high school after all...

I agree. My roommate was floored by this film. He loved loved loved it so much that he insisted I borrow his DVD. And man oh man did I hate it.

The screenplay was a god awful mess. It hardly has a second or third act. The characters are completely despicable and not very funny. How the hell did this even get developed? It was very hard for me to care about the film...but it did LOOK good thanks to David Gordon Green. Horrible choice on his part if you consider his rich and intelligent back catalog.

I have no idea what that is supposed to even mean...

I have to disagree with you, obviously. I fully expected to like PE, especially as I love "Up in Smoke" for example, but I was absolutely shocked by how much of an unfunny mess PE was. I walked in to it with absolutely no agenda or preconceptions, seriously, and I was floored by how bad I thought it was (Franco's stoner impression aside). However, I am really glad you agree about Suspiria. Not only do I think there is no reason to remake it, I think the director is uniquely unsuited to the material, and it practically ensures that it will wind up being yet another dismal, insulting remake.
