Was George Washington a debut fluke?

All The Real Girls was very good too but all the promise this guy showed on his debut film has evaporated into the ether as far as I can see.Hyped as the next Malick or whatever lazy comparison one wants to make,I just watched Prince Avalanche..Jesus..what a let down that was..fighting not to fall asleep and wishing it to end soon....What happened to David Gordon Green??

There's no such thing as a fluke when making movies...

I don't think it was a fluke since there's a lot of quality in All the Real Girls and even many parts of Undertow. He really just sold out to make some fun movies with his friends apparently. He should have been the next Terrence Malick but instead he's someone who will most likely be forgotten. I liked Prince Avalanche, but I don't see him recapturing what he once had.

I think Jeff Nichols is more on the path people expected for him.

Having just seen the OUR BRAND IS CRISIS trailer, I'm scratching my head and wondering the same thing. Yes, GW and ATRG are fine and I thought SNOW ANGELS was interesting as well, but since then it's been brutal. Even the serious films come off as campy. Hope I'm wrong and this new one surprises me.

I just discovered him. Watched half his films. Hit and miss.. But his hits are powerful

Agreed. He's hit and miss, but he's made a bunch of films that I really like. But he really dropped the ball with the new Halloween movie. I think he's better when he's making indie films.
