To tie with Robert Wise and John Ford

With his DGA win, it looks like he may take home Best Director, which means that in terms of Oscar wins, he will have tied with the legendary Robert Wise and John Ford!! And with current director Clint Eastwood!

Tied for what? This would be Inarritu's 4th Oscar (his second for directing, he has additional ones for Best Picture and Writing). John Ford still holds the record for most Best Director wins with four. Eastwood and Wise each have 2 Best Picture wins and 2 Best Director wins (two each for the same movie).
I cannot see a clear correlation here, since, yes they all have 4 Oscar wins, but still for different categories.

And, just to set this straight, Joel Coen also has 4 Oscar wins (one of them being Best Director), so does Woody Allen and John Williams has five (none of them being for Best Director), etc.

I think he means back-to-back Oscar wins. He will be the 3rd director to do it... And if Revenant wins Best Picture at the Oscar , it will be the first time any director has won back-to-back director and picture wins. WIll be some achievment.

So, the OP tried to say that, along with Wise and Eastwood, Inarritu would become the third person to win Director and Best Picture for the same film twice? Ford however doesn't fit the list, since he never won for Best Picture, "only" for Directing.
One could also throw in Wilder and Wyler, since they both won directing awards twice for Picture that also won Best Picture.

And, no, Inarritu won't be the 3rd director to win back-to-back in the Directing category but the 4th. The three to do so are John Ford, Lewis Milestone and Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
