Was Jessalyn dropped from Boston Public or did she leave on her own?
I always found it interesting that while she had top billing on the show, it was Chi MacBride who was the central figure. I've often wondered if she took the part thinking she'd be the focus of the show, and then left when she realized she was just one of the ensemble and Chi MacBride was the true star. Anyone know for sure?
Wish I knew. There's never been mention as to what happened there. If it was her choice to leave or not. It went down hill after her departure though.

I stopped watching not long after she left. Jeri Ryan wasn't enough to keep me around, even though I loved her on Star Trek Voyager. Jessalyn was my favorite on Boston Public. I think she left on her own, if I remember correctly from the articles from that time, but it's been so long now I can't be certain.
shareI don't know really. I absolutely loved the show's first season and Jessalyn was without a doubt one of the highlights. However, as season 2 began Jery Ryan's character got introduced and Jessalyn almost became invisible, I can hardly think of an episode which was centered on her.
I think she left because she wasn't really much in the story anymore (in the first season she and Chi were the central characters), plus the show was slightly getting worse.
She was amazing in it though.

Season 2 was definitely when the show started falling off. That first season was glorious, however, and personally she, Chi McBride, Anthony Heald, and Nicky Katt were the 4 main reasons why.
