Highly overrated and not a good actor

Good grief! I agree with spotlightne about something! Wonder of wonders.

I don't object to his writing, and I liked him very much when he was interviewed on "Desert Island Discs", but somehow his acting style grates, he's too static, his speaking style seems somewhat forced and he always has that slightly smug, slightly nervous expression, whoever he is playing.

Sorry, Mark, apart from the acting, I think you are a sweetie.

Wow. Coming to the message on IMDb dedicated to him just to say you don't like him is a pretty lousy thing to do. Why bother? Just keep it to yourself.

Well, the board is for discussions about him and if some people don't care for his acting and writings I do not think that is bad to say because they were respectful about it. You should hear on some other boards on other people.

That being said, I personally disagree with the OP, but I don't see the need to engage in name calling and if it would have been nasty or very disrespectful, I would have said something. Agree to disagree. Besides, they did not say they did not like him, they just don't think he is a great actor. I like him.

As always, I respect the opinions of all, but personally have to differ on this one. I think his range of acting is marvellous. He can be so funny in something like The League of Gentlemen, utterly vulnerable and sweet in something like Marple or Fear of Fanny, but also creepy and sinister in something like Doctor Who. I love his acting, I think he is brilliant.

I agree that he is overrated. His screenplays are confusing and hard to follow, his acting style is wooden, and almost camp at times. He also seems to use his influence to get his spouse acting work in productions he is involved with, which does not seem to be very professional.
