DEATH TO CANCEL CULTURE

It seems Jeff Garlin is an inadvertent casualty of the entire cancel culture/#MeToo witchhunt which is destroying careers on no evidence and is based on the hypersensitivity of people who are not out for justice, but revrenge. Jeff, as a comedian and comic actor, has most likely been doing his same schtick for decades on sets where he works. He wouldn't have had a 21 year career on Curb Your Enthusiasm if Larry David didn't think he had incredible talents at improv. Much of his humor, as with his character on Curb, could be said to be off-color, which some of us prefer. I imagine he wasn't doing anything different on the set of Goldbergs than he always does, but in the present atmosphere of hypersensitivity, some of his co-workers suddenly got it into their heads 'Hey that's offensive. He shoulnt say that." And then they talk about this with others and get them believing that the same stuff that they would have chuckled at before is now a damnable sin. And suddenly management gets involved, and to placate hurt feelings the star of the show gets fired. It's a #MeToo cancellation without the sexual harassment, just a few Puritans who don't like dirty jokes. Shame on all of you who think Larry should fire him from Curb. This is where Curb's power should show itself---the #MeToo "movement" and the present drive to "disappear" artists based on unproven allegations and people not being able to take a joke deserve to be utterly destroyed by comedians. Bill Burr has already done some of it in "Paper Tiger". Curb needs to go further and make a complete mockery of cancel culture and all those who support it. I would be disappointed if it didn't use this incident for laughs next season (as it did with Michael Richard's unfortunate n-word meltdown). I pray the best for Jeff and hope that he and Larry successfully skewer these hypocrites and pious prudes.

For fucks sake Jeff, can't you promote yourself less obviously.

reply

Being disrespectful and insulting towards your colleagues is not a shtick. It's asking to get sacked.

reply

Don Rickles built a very successful and long career out of doing just that, but you probably don’t know who he is was.

reply

Amen

reply

He shouldn't have made a career being a jerk.

reply

Shaking my head.

reply

No, he did not. Stop spreading disinformation. Don Rickles had an onscreen persona where he insulted people but backstage, he was reportedly one of the nicest and most generous person in showbiz.
