Jimmy Fallon Apologizes for Blackface in Old ‘SNL’ Skit: ‘I Made a Terrible Decision’

I wonder when we're gonna get Billy Crystal's apology?

He's full of it. He's only saying it to save his career.
shareFunny how Dan Akroyd and Robert Downey Jr also wore “blackface,” but made it actually funny and not just cliche. Fallon was just doing a lame Chris Rock impersonation.
shareTo be fair Robert Downey Jr. did not wear blackface. Instead he played a character who wore blackface. There is a difference.
"I know who I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!"
Well, technically he was actually in the blackface makeup, but your point is well taken. Downey Jr. was satirizing a particular kind of method acting egomaniac lunacy in Hollywood Oscar-bait circles, as well as the insensitivity of the film industry in whitewashing characters while pretending to be progressive. I expect that kind of satire is lost on a lot of these activist types, though.
shareDan Akroyd too in Trading Places.
shareJimmy Kimmel used to play Carl Malone and Chris Parnell used to play Jesse Jackson. I'm surprised people don't know this. I guess the younger generation wouldn't have been around to watch old SNL episodes or The Man Show.
shareJIMMY DOING KARL WAS HILARIOUS...THATS GONNA BE A SPOOKY TIME!...

You kids are too young to remember this, but Sarah Silverman wore black face. It was a different episode from the one where she licked her dog's butt, with the evaluation, "Fair, at best!" Even that show couldn't break enough barriers to get both of those in the same episode. Sad.
shareLike someone was actually waiting for that to happen.
shareI don't understand why he's apologizing. Whoever put him on TV in the first place should apologize. Lorne Michaels was it?
shareYou white people dont understand a damn thing! How would you like it if Chris Rock put on white face and pretended to be Jimmy Fallon?
shareRemember when John Belushi did Jap face and mocked Samurai culture? My friend of Japanese descent laughed his ass off when he first saw it back when it aired. I'm pretty sure that would never be done again today.
shareWell your friend of Japanese descent doesn't know when to be offended. Your friend needs to consult a white guilt hipster dickhead who can tell him when he should be outraged.
shareOh the Japanese have their very own mockery of non-Japanese cultures down pat. Thing is, they know when to use it and when not to. They also don't fret over a misconception which is what this corporate retroshaming fiasco is all about and it's being used by certain players to wield power and influence NOT instill a sense of respect and cooperation.
