Will Chiwetel Ejiofor get the same treatment that Viola Davis got?
Chiwetel Ejiofor performance in 12 Years a Slave is one of the best performance by an actor this year and deserves to win the Oscar, but there are some factors that might stand in his way?!
Despite having a terrific performance, Chiwetel Ejiofor isn't very well known in Hollywood. Which's apparently part of winning a major award(s), than just the performance. Leonardo DiCaprio and Matthew McConaughey are very well known in Hollywood!
It is the same problem that Viola Davis had in 2011 with The Help.
Before the The Help, Viola Davis was a known actress, with guest staring of tv series' and being well known on Broadway (winning 2 Tony Awards). She started getting attention in 2008 with the movie Doubt. She was nominated for the Golden Globe, the SAG Award, the BAFTA and the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2011 with The Help, Viola Davis was a clear frontrunner to win Best Actress.
She won the Critics' Choice Award and the SAG Award, but lost the Golden Globe, the BAFTA and the Oscar to Meryl Streep! I believe there was a campaign in Hollywood to give Meryl Streep a third Oscar. Meryl Streep won for playing Margaret Thatcher. Even though she gave a terrific performance, the film itself wasn't well received by critics, but somehow she won!
Chiwetel Ejiofor has lost the Golden Globe, the Critics' Choice Award and the SAG Award to Matthew McConaughey! He still has the BAFTA and the Oscar, but his chances are much harder now.
Chiwetel Ejiofor appears to be getting the same treatment that Viola Davis got, losing to actors much well known, but there still might be hope for Chiwetel Ejiofor?!
Let's look at Halle Berry in 2001 for Monster's Ball.
She wasn't nominated for the Critics' Choice Award, she lost the Golden Globe and the BAFTA, but she won the SAG Award and then won the Oscar.
Because of Halle Berry, Chiwetel Ejiofor still has a chance to win the Oscar?!
