Hate him but respect him as an actor

Anyone just hate this guy? It's probably something to do with the way he looks and the type of characters he always plays. My hate grew in There will be blood and also that recent show war & peace but I really can't deny he's a stellar actor.

He was on Marc Maron's podcast recently and seems to be a very likable person. I guess he just appeares rarely outside his roles, apart from that podcast I cannot remember having him seen anywhere outside his movies (which in my book is a big plus on its own already).

Just saw him in the Seattle airport yesterday. Interrupted his phone call to ask if he was who I thought he was. He courteously nodded and I left him alone. I would say he's a decent person, mainly because he wasnt above being in baggage claim like everyone else, and mostly because I could see a regular Hollywood type flying off the handle on me for interrupting his call.

I love him as an actor but in a lot of his written interviews he comes across as really pretentious and complains a lot. But when he does interviews in front of a camera he comes across as much more likeable. So if you ever see written articles about him his answers to questions make him unlikeable. He comes across as a pretentious hipster who complains about a lot of things and tries way too hard to promote that he's different. In the live interviews he doesn't do this so go figure.
