Her career today

I saw The Girl Next Door in the theater and, like so many other guys, became obsessed and madly in love with Elisha Cuthbert. I had no doubt that she was going to be a mammoth star. As time passed, I kind of forgot about the movie and as a result I
moved on from my huge crush on her. The name didn’t pop into my head again until seeing the movie again last week. I was even more impressed this time. I think when I first saw it, I was just fixated on her appearance but watching it today, I notice so much more that she does in that role then she may be given credit for. So many subtleties and on top of her drop dead gorgeous looks, she brings so much charm, charisma, and heart to the role. I find myself getting sucked into it again. Her portrayal of Danielle seems to have a much deeper and heavier effect on a lot of guys that goes beyond just being beautiful - you have to be a talented actress to sell it the way she does to all of us.
Where I am going with this is....what happened to that skyrocketing career that so many assumed would happen? I really don’t mean to be mean or offensive about it. She’s a mom, had a long marriage and I think it would be safe to say she’s had a good career, but not the one a lot of people or Elisha herself maybe thought she
would have. Being the ocd i can be I began looking at IMDb and it looks like she really only did 3 movies after TGN? And IMO they seemed like kind of odd choices. All horror/dark films that went nowhere. I never heard of them and will never see them based on reviews/plots/Paris Hilton (wtf), etc. I wonder - was this by her choice wanting to get as far away from TGN as possible? Or was she not offered any roles of any substance or that better suited her? I find the latter hard to believe. A girl that stunning and beautiful that can actually act had to have many other opportunities right? were there issues behind the scenes we don’t know about? I can speak with knowledge to the fickle and unforgiving world of Hollywood. Maybe she didn’t play the game. Maybe she crossed the wrong influential and powerful person. She’s Canadian and Canadians have a tendency to be a little more grounded then others. Since the movie career she’s had some tv roles on series that didn’t stick. Looks like she’s on a Netflix show the ranch now. Again she’s working and it is far from a failed career but it’s still a bit of a puzzling one. She’s young enough and still very attractive to still hit something big. Even on this forum, there’s no one around. Will anyone even read this?

Take this with a grain of salt, but there have been stories going around for years that she is difficult to work with. The stories started during her run on the television series "24" and labeled her difficult. Stories of a "diva like" attitude also plagued her during and after "24." Whether or not that is true is debatable.

We now know that many rumors about woman actors being difficult come from male producers and directors that ask for more than an acting job.

If Cuthbert refused the casting couch, she's all the better for it. Then again, she may have been just plain difficult, but we don't really know.

She mostly stayed in the TV business. Her movie roles had her playing an alluring young woman. I don't think there's much of a future in movies unless that's all she wanted to play.

reply

She got married and had kids. Her husband was transferred to Canada. She moved there and put her career on hold to be with him.

reply

To play such a relentless or ruthless character and a real bitch, if that's the right word, she's done pretty well career wise.

reply

No nudes. She was in that time period when women got few roles after 35 if they weren't willing to do nudes.

They might if you weren’t so self- indulgently verbose.
