I am seeing pretty mixed reviews for the movie altogether. However, it seems they got a little carried away with Marton's character. I haven't been able to find any pictures/video yet, but one review noted that instead of making it a serious role, they decked him out in eyeliner and lipstick and made his character pretty wonky.
Hopefully Sin City and The Equalizer later this year work out a lot better for him, and give him better material to work with.
ITA, this seems kinda below him to be honest...

He was awful in it, I literally came on this board just to post this. The movie was very subpar, but his character and performance was a complete joke. I don't know what they were thinking. Its awfulness is closely followed by The Man in Black. Talk about useless characters.
shareIt's very tricky this one. I, myself, really enjoyed his hammy-ness and over the top performance. Especially when he's like "I always get results!" I feel like we should blame director Marc Webb though, for the actual character itself was changed from the comics completely.
I myself loved Martin Csokas in the role but I can totally accept that he was out of place in the movie.
I actually thought he was a lot of fun personally, and given that it looked like he was having it I thought it was infectious. I thought he was great for what he was. An archetypical over-the-top comic book mad scientist.
