He should've been the next companion...

I know in Doctor Who he has a wife and a kid and was always stern about how he just wanted a quiet, normal life...but the chemistry between him and Matt Smith was unmistakable.

Matt Smith said he wanted James Corden's "Craig" to be the next companion. And Lodger and Closing Time are two of the best episodes from the 11th Doctor's run.

I know the main companion has always been a girl, but why not change things up? If you have a likable, interesting character, why not run with it a bit more.

Hmm...it'll be interesting to see if now that the Doctor is Peter Capaldi if they ever bring Craig back. It wouldn't be the same chemistry, but is it worth exploring for another one and done appearance?
