A question concerning her character in Bones

OK I haven't seen a single episode in Bones and I have a question concerning her character, her name (Angela Montenegro) sounds latin although she doesn't look it, I guess because she has asian looking features (and the name is Latin sounding) the character could possibly be the first ever filipino character in a US prime time TV show?

reply

her mother is chinese and her father is irish. its in her trivia

reply

I'm talking about her Character's ethnicity

reply

Her character's ethnicity is never mentioned (thank God).

reply

Actually. In one episode it mentioned her going to like another country and she was supposed to be married to a guy there but didn't knoe if it was legal or not. I forgot which eppy though.

reply

Well on the show her dad is a member of ZZ Top lol

reply

Yes; Original Poster is probably right - for some reason Angela took her mother's surname (probably of Filipino origin) and it's never explained fully. I guess it makes you wonder, or people who like to be specific wonder. I don't think not knowing her ethnicity detracts from her character at all though. Clearly we can see that she has some sort of Asian ancestry, but even if we don't know - she's still hot and adds some funny commentary to the show!

This season (The Truth in the Lye) Hodgins thought she could read some Chinese characters, because she is part Chinese.

(About the Chinese characters they find)
Hodgins: What do they say?
Angela: They say 'What make foolish man think I speak Chinese'?
Hodgins: I thought you were half Chinese.
Angela: And I think you're half Swedish. Let's here some Swedish.

That's about all I can remember about them mentioning her heritage.

In the "Mummy in the Maze" episode this season (Season 3), the private investigator Hodgins and Angela hire to find her husband states that "Angela Montenegro" (in full, "Angela Pearly Gates Montenegro," per the aborted-wedding episode at the end of Season 2) is a name Angela made up when she was a student at art school. We aren't told what her birth name was.
