Quirky Director: Not my choice for GOTG III
Taika Waititi is paradoxically funny, laughs at conventions and norms, irreverent but in some ways for me off putting when it comes to honoring traditions.
T:R was indeed funny but I was not fond of all things Asgardian being trashed as a way of rebirthing Thor for a final act of a trilogy. GOTG has no such pomp and circumstance that would be or could be romanticized so maybe TW is okay for the send of that trilogy but I shudder that being the kick off point for the cosmic side of the MCU.
The grand scope of the cosmic side of the MCU has larger than reality beings and settings. TW honored Jack Kirby with the color and weirdness of Kirby's design but TW made Kirby shrink and instead of expanding your mind's eye it narrowed your view into Kirby's vision. TW attempted to humanize Thor. I didn't want or desired to see The God of Thunder made common I preferred him and all things Asgard uncommon and grand.
Cogler made Wakanda larger than life but I am not advocating Cogler for the next phase of the MCU. I just prefer Disney/Marvel look beyond the Taikia desire to take the piss out of everything. Whedon already did that to Thor and Loki in The Avengers.
Marvel should build up the mythology of the Cosmic MCU before taking comedic shots to make Tony Stark feel good.
