Throwback to the days of Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart

He's the kind of guy other guys wanna be. He just seems to exude a strong but likable, dependable but playful persona in those roles that call for it. Like those classic actors that people went to see because it was like visiting a good and valued friend. Hate to use the term, but "decent" is the kind of role model that is sadly wanting these days. It would seem that his film and private personae are similar, with a steady family life and commitment to good works. I hope he doesn't mind if our affection for him has perhaps led to a degree of type-casting. I love his comment that he admired James Garner's career, a man whom I know personally to have been a down-to-earth good guy and who inspired similar affection and loyalty. I think that he'd have been a highly successful politician, at least in terms of electability, don't you? Oh, by the way, he's a terrific actor.

I think you're right about the similarities between him and Cooper/Stewart/etc. It's a shame that personalities like Downey, Damon, et al suck the wind out of Hollywood leaving very little room for anyone else.

Agree 100%.

You're right. He's a good, decent man. Seems honest and down to earth. The comparison to James Garner is not off base.

I was thinking the same, when watching "Carol". I can't say I'm a huge fan of Kyle, but I liked "Early Edition" a lot as a kid, and it's nice to see him still around, somehow slowly getting into the spotlight through bigger projects.

I'm about to watch "Bloodline", curious how he is in it.

Also Gregory Peck. Can't you see him as Atticus Finch?
