Yes, people seem to think of being Jewish as a nationality. Its a religion. You can can live in Israel and not be Jewish technically.

To be fair on the OP, Yiddish Americans are really just German Americans who are not Christian/Atheist/Agnostic/etc. I find it a laughable shame that you are not allowed to call Yiddish ''Jewish'' Americans ''German American'' despite the fact that they speak a dialect of Hoch Deutsch, have German surnames, look German and act German. Infact, one of the main arguments against Nazism was that they claimed that the Yiddish speakers were not German despite the fact that these said Yiddish speakers considered themselves German ("Deutsche-National Juden", ''Germans who practice Judaism'').

But to return to the question. No, I do not think Sarah Chalke is a practicing Jew of any kind nor do I recall any of her family being Jewish.
