In A Complete Unknown, Did Bob Dylan Get Credit for Something Johnny Cash Did First?
On a second viewing of A Complete Unknown, I noticed one of Johnny Cash's backup band had an electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival in 1964. I looked it up and it seems Cash himself used an electric guitar at that festival in 1964, influencing Dylan to do the same. The movie implies Bob Dylan was the first to use electric instruments at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. In any case, it appears that both the festival board and the audience lost their minds at what Dylan did but I wonder what if anything was said about Cash using an electric guitar at the festival the year before?
