will he be heard from again??
or is it a one off like Roberto Benigni
shareHe has been a very well-regarded filmmaker for quite some time. Whether or not he returns to the US awards circuit, if that’s what you mean, we shall see - but I’m sure this will open more doors for him.
shareYes. He is a good director and will continue to make successful, quality films. He will likely get nominated again in the future.
shareAnother Roberto Benigni, I'm afraid.
sharei think you're right.
shareBenigni is a very Italian director (and more lowbrow than people think). He was not at all suited for Hollywood. I'm not too familiar with Bong Joon-Ho's work, but he also seems like a very Korean director. You have to adjust to Hollywood to be able to achieve something. I think he might feel more at home making movies in Korea. I also feel the movie industry wanted to make a statement by giving Parasite so much praise, so I'm not sure if they're genuinely interested in him.
Now the Korean producers have been trying for years to break through in the American entertainment industry, so who knows what they have in mind next. It doesn't necessarily mean Bong is involved.
he's very well established, and has been making highly regarded & successful films for many years.
i think parasite is his best film, but the host, okja, mother & snowpiercer are all terrific. memories of murder is apparently supposed to be great as well, but i haven't had a chance to see it yet.
there's every reason to expect he'll continue to give us weird, fun, imaginative films.
Memories of Murder maybe even be better than Parasite, or at least equal.
shareI do think Parasite is his greatest film to date but Mother and Memories of Murder are excellent.
shareyou're not the first to say so. unfortunately it never seems to pop up on streaming anywhere. i think i'll break down & rent it this week.
shareI say he is it's unfortunate The Academy they gave Kathryn Bigelow that treatment after she made the oscar caliber Detroit
