Jack Black is overrated
He really is

shareHeh I agree with you. Although if the magazine is about Hollywood it makes sense actors would be on it, in the same way a handyman trade magazine would have real life repairmen on it. Its really not the attention these celebrities get that's annoying. Rather its annoying the way when someone like Jack Black or Michael Cera is labeled as a "funnyman", and every time people see him in a preview or on TV they laugh at every joke he says whether they honestly find him funny or not, because they think they're supposed to laugh.
10 years ago when no one heard of him, Jack could have said the same exact jokes in front of an audience and other than a few mercy laughs you would not have seen the gut-splitting howls of laughter people feign because of his celebrity status. They treated Paulie Shore the same way in the 90s when he was considered "hip", but the same "fans" abandoned him when he couldn't get any movie roles, which meant they probably never found him funny in the first place. (See also 1980s, Herman, PeeWee) I bet that if any random schmuck were cast in a moderately successful comedy and obtain the "funnyman" label, people would treat him like a comic God until his career tanks. Then their snotty attitudes would show an ungrateful side.
Black and Michael Cera will tank very soon, and then we'll see who the real "fans" are.
He is a pretty funny guy, I like Tenacious D. Is he an oscar level actor? No.

Oh I'm not saying he's not funny at all. He can make people laugh at certain times, even often. But I'm tired of the whole formula thing where Jack Black is a rock loving...basically anything...and when people see him in a preview the audience roars just when he appears because they are expected to laugh. At those times I have my doubts whether the laughs are sincere. If anything my issue is with his marketing and the general public's tendency to blindly follow labels, not with Black himself.
I'm just saying some people are labeled funny and everything they say is treated like God-given comedic talent...until they're no longer a hot commodity, at which point they're treated like garbage. We complain about the phoniness of Hollywood, what about the phoniness of audiences?
What a funny subject, but one question, who says that he is a very talented actor?Or he really deserves more lead roles?Or any other compliments?
Someone can only be overated if people rate them highly, and people dont rate JB highly!
So how can he be overated?
I personally think he is pretty annoying, some of his roles you just want to shout at him.But he has been in some quality films, anchorman is the best he has been in,although a small role.I also quite liked him in king kong,he wasnt his usual listen to me self.
But to say he is overated when he isnt rated highly at all,no he isnt.
I don't think he is funny at all, I have worked in offices with people who are funnier without even trying.
He is on the AFI tribute right now on TV Land saluting Shirley Maclaine. Not in person but on film and he dropped an F bomb which of course was deleted.
The audience doesn't seem to be amused.
I turned it off until his unfunny bit was over.
yeah, i don't find him funny. i've never seen someone try so hard to be funny all the time and fail so miserably. but people are stupid, and they like things that they can relate to. that's the only way i can explain jack black being rated highly.
shareMany people like the simple, wacky and direct comedy and many of us can't stand it. I prefer more indirect and complex humor. You can't change all the people that enjoy the type of comedian he is and complaining about him won't either.
