This is an out of context soundbyte just feeding into the current media narrative, and in no way indicated that he didn't actually remember the SecDef or remember his name. He was just acknowledging that most citizens don't know this man since he's busy working at the Pentagon and not being a reality-show talking-head like many other superficial public figures who are trying to hijack our country with their commercialistic nonsense.
By the way, are you Australian? Your Sky News media is not very analytical, is it? It's presentation is like the "reading the cereal box" version of news.
Biden framed his answer about SecDef and SCOTUS appointment to show solidarity with the young black viewership community tuning into BET. Also, Biden has always been a more legislatively-inclined leader due to his 40 years in Congress, so I have no trouble believing that he could pick qualified cabinet heads and also not spend much of his time micro-managing their efforts. Austin is probably not in the West Wing that often. Biden interacts with Congress, and for this reason, has been a successful President. The four major initiatives that have passed during his 1st term are the reason the American economy bounced back quicker and stronger than any other major nation in the world, post-pandemic... with low unemployment, high markets, focused infrastructure improvements, low taxes for most brackets, and an inflation rate that is at 3% and nearly bottomed out. Australia was 7% last I checked.
