6 billion for Iran

Iran is under sanctions. Part of what this means is that when they try to spend their own money outside their borders with our allies, it becomes frozen. Such is the case with the $6 billion in question for humanitarian aid from South Korea & Qatar.

When we want something from them, such as prisoner release and exchange, inspections or similar, then sometimes a deal is done to overlook the transaction or unfreeze their assets.

This is tough and smart diplomacy, and it also ensures the Iranians will make purchases that help their people so perhaps we can be negotiated with to overlook it.

You want to pretend that this is American taxpayer money, and not Iranian money so you can propagate your MAGA lies. 👎

reply

sanctioned? sanctioned for what? Sanctioned is just a bullshit word for extortion.

reply

Frozen assets are not stolen. They are simply stored in their foreign accounts and remain inaccessible until such time as they can be used as a bargaining chip for prisoner exchange or whatever. There has been a history of these foreign accounts being established and then being utilitized for terrorist operations. Iran is acknowledged the world over, to be a failed terrorist-supporting state.

They can export their oil and use their currency in their own borders, but they are to remain quarantined. Both American political parties support these sanctions. The people who make up that country are not an enemy, but their government is a extremist authoritarion theocracy with a violent outlook towards Israel and the West. We hold on to hope that the young emerging population—which has shown a tendency towards favoring moderation, will one day overthrow their leaders and rejoin civilization.

How old are you guys, anyhow? You must have the memory of a f-ckin' fruit fly! How is it possible for the users here to remain so ignorant? Are you high school age? Are you anarchists? What is it?

I'm a Democrat, but it wasn't so long ago that the Right tried using this as a flagship issue for them to criticize Obama and the Left for, supposedly, easing these tensions. It was all over talk radio in 2015. That's exactly the position that the OP, darkpast, an Ultra MAGA Trump-supporter, seems to be currently taking. (In the most dishonest way, of course.) But his candidate literally ran on these strict sanctions!

Literally no mainstream political constituency wants to remove oversight and sanctions completely off of Iran.

Oh really? Iran is a terrorist-supporting state yet every terrorist is trained in and paid for by Saudi Arabia. Where's their so-called sanctions. Man, the news tells you something and you just immediately eat the slop. Crazy. You sure you're not the high school kid, believing everything your cat lady teacher read to you out of some indoctrination textbook? Grow up.

reply

9/11 terrorists were indeed mainly from Saudi Arabia, but they were never supported, trained or funded by the government there. Osama bin Laden, who was just a very wealthy individual, and his al Qaeda group out of Afghanistan planned that event. This is common knowledge. Saudi's were used probably just because it's a population center with an established infrastucture—certainly in comparison to Afganistan and Pakistan.

This was all before inter-agency cooperation and oversight by the Department of Homeland Security, which didn't exist prior. The Bush administration had a ceremonial Counterterrorism task force prior to 9/11, and they never once held a meeting. Experts like Richard Clarke and Sandy Berger were completely ignored. The August 6th PDB memo was disregarded. This is because, as I repeatedly say throughout this thread... GOP leadership are NOT interested in actually governing until we, the American people, force their hand. They are businessmen, there to generate wealth for their ruling class, and enable all the worst abuses motivated by greed and avarice. Fortunately, what they now disparagingly call the Deep State (career bureaucrats who are our only salvation) keep things running smoothly to the best of their ability. As you can expect, the Deep State, being the only roadblock to their unbridled lust for power, are portrayed negatively by them to their ignorant voters. Absolutely disgraceful.

reply

Can't answer the question, huh? Just divert blame. Where's Saudi's sanctions, or is okay because they have centralized banks controlled by the usury merchant and have an understanding? Who did Iran fund? Save your mind broken babble for some schmuck who would put it up with it. Probably no one.

reply

Sanctions for being a threat to Israel. Sanctions for NOT allowing the western central banks to secure a position there.

reply

Amazing how when the Dems cut these deals we always end up on the short end.

I wonder what the possibility is that this was a backhanded way to buy that oil we confiscated. Our nation is severely short on oil reserves thanks to the Biden administration’s disastrous green new deal policies. A quick band aid before it all comes crashing down.

Obama's third term is working out well for Iran.

reply

"Amazing how when the Dems cut these deals we always end up on the short end."

Tell that to American prisoners held in their Islamic prisons, and their families here at home who will now be reunited with their loved ones. This is evidence that State Dept diplomats are actually working, and not playing golf. You find this consistently in a Leftist Executive branch because Democrats run on and value public service. Call it "the Establishment" if you want to, but you know damn well the GOP alternative wants to diminish a federal footprint. This is why their nominees are so-often wholly unqualified. Trump's entry-level government post was President of the United States. Even ignoring his blatant criminality, just think about that for a second. Absolutely absurd and surreal are the events that transpired, and you personally should be apologetic and embarrassed about it for being a supporter.

Frozen funds are analysed... they are from South Korea and Qatar banks and are earmarked for humanitarian aid. Perhaps it won't benefit the population there as much as we'd like, but the only way the Iranian people have a chance of taking back their country with stable leaders in the decades to come may be from deals like this. I have full faith in Secretary Blinken and his team, as well as covert operatives to keep an eye on Iran.

As far as former-President Trump and Mike Pompeo are concerned, I sincerely think they'd find themselves right at home living in palaces in repressed countries such as North Korea or Iran. Maybe that will be part of the next deal. Ship 'em out.

reply

It's not amazing when you know the Democrats are just a lobbyist organization for overseas powers. No real American would support their party and fund their tyrannical illegal policies. This is one of the reasons they allow third worlds to flood the country.

reply

Everyone is a lobbyist for something.

Immigration to the West is a moderating factor with people in these regions. It's like when the Soviets were stuck behind the Iron Curtain being fed their propaganda. As soon as people started learning for themselves about the free world, and hearing Rock-N-Roll music from The Beatles, the die were cast. Word would get back home and it was the beginning of the end for the closed totalitarian states.

The best chance for the Middle East may be exactly those (highly-vetted) refugees and migrants going through the process to come here, and providing a counter-point to their friends and relatives back home who are learning from their theocratic leaders about The Great Satan of America.

There are no "open borders" though, and never were. There is always a process. The more you elect leaders who believe in the federal departments, and wish them to remain properly funded and staffed by experts, then the more thorough and safe that process will be.

Democrats favor this approach because they actually care about governing, paving the way, and they think long-term strategy for decades and centuries to come. In 100 years time, the Middle East may possibly be a quite stable, prosperious and freedom-loving place. Consequently, they'll probably be a hell of a lot of money to be made there as well for those concerned about that.

GOP are repugnant and careless, whether Neo-Cons making war or, more recently, MAGA being isolationists. All they care about is short-term, in effect:

"Will our clueless leaders who we promote to D.C. do what we sent them there for? To sit on their hands, close up shop while doing a little song-and-dance of misdirection, and deregulate, cut corporate taxes, and boost capital gains for the wealthy and elite."

That's NOT public service. And it's not, in the least bit, humanitarian.

reply

I don't even bother reading your full shitposts. Especially when you try to make excuses for allowing foreign entities to gain control, and siphon money out of the U.S. economy. You're a shill and disgrace and clearly unbalanced to type up a fucking dissertation trying to defend such treason. Your brain is warped, like your view of reality and you want to ignore results and just echo bullshit ideologies and lefty rhetoric that is never backed up by facts/data. So stop wasting my time, and everyone elses. I have no inclination to try to convince someone so mindbroken by Trump, of anything. Your opinions, thoughts, and ideas are worthless.

reply

I'm not really even writing to you, but I know someone will find it illuminating amongst all the right-wing dreck here from Bezos' bots. I don't care what you read or learn. Your leader is going to prison. I embrace Globalism over Isolationism, and that's perfectly in line with prior precedent since colonial times and the United States Constitution.

Give us stable and sober Democratic Party control with leaders like Clinton, Obama, Biden, Harris, Blinken, Pelosi, and Schumer in the Executive & Legislative Branches of Government—more often than not, for the next 100 years, and we'll have a safe, clean, diverse & prosperous world for our heirs. America will retain it's position as Reagan's shining "city on a hill" as long as we continue to fight to keep the crooks out & the kooks out.

Social Conservatives are fine and welcome. Social Liberals are fine. It's all about genuine attempts at public service.

VOTE Blue in 2024, readers.

On 1 hand, I'm happy those Americans that have been over there for God knows how long are home now and reunited with family & friends, but on the other hand, you gave Terrorists $6 Billion and that might be a problem moving forward in them expecting this every time someone is hijacked and or kidnapped and this is what they expect in return or else??

reply

Hell, he needs to negotiate. We could buy Iran for a lot less than that.

reply

Thanks Joe for promoting terrorism.
