Indiana Jones was crucial to the plot
Contrary to what Mayim said about Indiana Jones not being crucial to the plot of Raiders of the Lost Ark, he is. The Nazis would've never found Marian and would've never found the Ark if Indy wasn't there. Its Toht and his men that track Indy down and follow him to Marian's bar, so without Indy being there they would've never gone to Marian's bar and would've never found the Ark.
