Why she insists on making god awful b-movies.
It's not like she really has a choice. If she were able to get good roles in high profile movies or TV shows, she'd be getting them. It's not like she can just call up Spielberg and Scorsese and be like "Ok guys! I'm ready for better work! What do you have for me?"
She's probably taking these bad B-movies because that is literally all she can get. Yes, she probably realizes the movies are poor as far as quality goes, but a girl's gotta pay her bills.
And she doesn't have the proper connections in film and TV to really get back in the game.
Her biggest movies were Notting Hill and The Sixth Sense, both of which came out nearly 20 years ago. She was only a child in both of those movies, and she didn't even have a big role in either of them.
Her biggest claim to fame is The O.C., for which she became the It Girl for a quick minute, and then Hollywood moved on. The O.C. has been canceled for a long time now, and while it does have a cult following, it is hardly remembered as a great, classic, major Award-winning show. It was a popular teen show that was on for a few years before it burned out.
She played a teenager, but she never really graduated into high profile adult roles in films. Everybody just remembers her as Marissa Cooper, so people just remember her as playing some spoiled teenager on a show for teenagers. It's not like she can make a jump and just start playing a cop or something on TV.
Her last major TV endeavor (besides Dancing With the Stars), The Beautiful Life, was a huge ratings flop and was quickly canceled after only 2 episodes. Funny thing, that show was going for the same target audience as The O.C., and the character she played (troubled supermodel) wasn't even that big of a stretch for Mischa...yet the show still failed big time.
And on top of that, her chaotic personal life has eclipsed her work as an actress. People now know her as a washed up, former TV star who went down the "Party Girl" path in Hollywood.
She had a chance to rebound earlier this year with Dancing With the Stars. I don't think she would have suddenly started to land big roles or anything, but it was her chance to win people over again...to remind them she was still around and to perhaps charm them and change their opinions on her after all the garbage that has been said about her throughout the years. Instead, she alienated her dance partner, her fellow contestants, fans, and people who didn't even know who she was, and she was quickly eliminated in week 3.
Hollywood is extremely competitive, and beautiful, talented actresses are a dime a dozen. LA is literally filled with thousands and thousands of pretty, talented actresses trying to make it big.
Mischa had her moment, and she got lucky with being on a hit show, and was more successful than most aspiring actors end up being...but unfortunately she couldn't keep the momentum going and she just kind of faded into obscurity. Sad, but it happens all the time in Hollywood. Fame is fickle!
