She was already old and sick with cancer when Obama was President. She could easily have retired during his second term and ensured a Democrat would replace her. Why didn't she? Selfishness, reluctance to relinquish her power, or what? She certainly didn't do her party any favors with her decision to hold on to the bitter end, did she?

shareI don't know what at stage the senate became a Republican stronghold and I don't know when the cancer that killed her took hold and nobody anticipated Trump's win. If she believed in what she was doing and was doing it well then obviously keep doing it - I don't belive it's necessarily selfishness on her part - but it was very poor timing.

Planning? She was 87 years old. People in their 50’s routinely buy cemetery plots and funeral insurance, because it becomes very clear around that age that you won’t live forever. What the hell did she expect? Besides, did she think that the country really needed a geriatric on the court?
