Was SummerSlam 97 a work?

There's theories that the screwjob was a work and it's probably true but I got another.

The whole Summerslam 97 Austin vs Owen match they were playing up Austin's past neck issues as Owen Hart did seemingly nothing but neck moves.

After the match was over Jerry Lawler looked over to Vince and JR and said that Henry Godwinn broke his neck and they didn't care and that was the clue.

Henry breaking his neck and seemingly not missing a beat was probably really respected in the locker room and Bruce and the boys thought "Well heck this could be a good story" but they weren't gonna waste it on Henry Godwinn so they strapped it to their hottest uprising star who's gimmick was a bad ass who never surrenders.

It was this moment more than King of the Ring 96 and WrestleMania 13 that really launched Austin into the stratosphere and made the casuals take notice. It was such a huge deal that Austin broke his neck and still won the match that you had to be there to really know the aura that created.

HBK left in 1998 because he knew he couldn't hang with Rock and Austin and was about to get eclipsed so he took his ball and went home and blamed it on his back. Likewise Austin left in 2003 because he knew he couldn't hang with that Elite Class from 2002 so he took his ball and went home and blamed it on his neck.

The real victim in all this was Henry Godwinn

I bet when Austin broke his neck tears were rolling down you cheek, it was a big deal...All Henry Godwinn got was a good swift kick in the ass and told to get back out there or he was fired and it ended his career but did you give a damn? Oh Hell No!
