So, even Apatow couldn't resist sequelmania

I'm a fan of Apatow. I love his comedy because of its originality and break from formula. Even though I didn't like Funny People, I appreciated what he tried to do here.

But seeing that he is making a sequel, or spin-off, of Knocked Up is disappointing. I understand that Funny People flopping might have hurt his confidence in doing original films, but that is no excuse to fall into Hollywood's cheap money making schemes.

But, I guess if even Pixar couldn't resist it, Apatow couldn't either.

I get your point, 8 out of 10 top (grossing) films of 2012 were remakes, reboots, spinoffs, reimaginings..etc. As opposed to 1 out of 10 in 1990. But oddly enough, a week before I knew this was coming, I said during a movie discussion with a coworker, that I really liked the Paul Rudd scenes in Knocked Up and voila a whole movie with those characters. One spinoff, I can handle in the respect of pollishing some rough gold that appeared in Knocked Up for a few short moments, if it keeps happening this might become a problem. I have to think he saw the comic gold that occured in K U (I even have a friend who disliked the movie but liked those scenes). If he'd never put those characters in K U, I would still have watched "This is 40" Again, I getchya but I also feel that those characters were good candidates for more exploration.

P.s. have you tried watching Funny People again? I wasn't impressed the first time either, but saw it at a friends for a second time and it grew on me a little, not my fave but I like it more than I did the first time. It's a departure from his other stuff for sure. Might have just been the company I was in upon the 2nd viewing, maybe the beers, etc*....

I don't see the connection between this and blatant franchise sequels. I mean there is nothing connecting this film to KU other than this family. Besides, the majority of people who will see this either are: fans of Apatow or people who want to see a comedy relating to their lives. Calling this "sequelmania" is a bit of a reach.

We're your friends, we're not like the others man, really
