Judd wants the Oscars to have a Comedy Category

This is a horrible idea. The only reason he wants that is because it's the only way he would get an Oscar. I think it would be a joke. Now, I agree that comedies do get overlooked. But adding the new category is a joke. That means that 4 or 5 comedies will get nominated, meaning that most of them will be movies that have no business being called an oscar nominated movie. I like The Hangover, but does it deserve an Oscar nom, hell no. Just look at the animated category. You basically give it to Pixar or Dreamworks every time. A lot of smaller animated movies don't stand a chance. So even if you had a category for best comedy, most of these indie comedies wouldn't stand a chance going up against bigger comedies. It's a horrible idea. Apatow just wants his movies to have a chance at an Oscar because he produces so many comedies.

I'm a huge fan of comedy. I think it doesn't get it due, but I don't want to see this happen.

Judd just needs to shut up and go away!

JUST SHUT UP!!! You're not funny and neither are your movies.

You know your name better than I do. YAY!

It's pointless. They might as well have a separate category for best action film and then they can turn the oscar statuette into a tub of pyrite popcorn.

God you can have Megan Fox...Give us back Vivien Leigh

Comedy movies are what the MTV Movie Awards, Teen/Kids choice awards, etc. are for.

Just take your golden popcorns and surfboard trophies and go away.

Well, he would, considering that's probably the only way his overrated movies and acting "troupe" would win any Oscars.

Yeah, they're dead, they're--all messed up.

Besides there's been tons of comedies that came over the year which are either comedy-dramas that are just dramas with comedic moments OR just crap.

This is my MAIN problem with alot of comedies that are geared towards single childless people, I mean in the 80s when comedy movies started making blockbusters there wasnt any "love interest" or added "drama" in the majority of them because they didnt need them and it made them funnier, in the current ones they make the FORCE them into comedies when these movies dont really need them to appeal to the "soccor/day time tv" moms and dads

I must echo the thoughts of everyone who has posted thus far.

The inclusion of a "Best Comedy Award" or would deteriorate the prestigious status of being nominated for an Oscar. Hell, the awards are hardly worthy of being called 'prestigious' any more. In my opinion, the whole academy and process of selecting nominees/winners needs to be reworked, but I think the world can agree that that is entirely unlikely to ever happen.

Anyway, I would hate to see: The Hangover Part 2, Bridesmaids, Paul, The Dilemna, and Horrible Bosses on a store shelf declaring themselves 'Oscar Nominated Films.' As if 'Norbit' wasn't bad enough.

If Apatow really wants his name associated with awards sweeps, he should go back to television and produce brilliant work like Freaks and Geeks again. Perhaps this time, the television studios by be on his side. As for cinema, leave well enough alone.

Also, as a side note, I meant no harm to Bridesmaids. A really fantastic and, in some ways, revolutionary film. It getting an Oscar nomination as of now would not irk me in any way.
