What happened to Dean Cundey after Apollo 13?
Sad to see that none of the posts from IMDb's Dean Cundey board carried over to MovieChat. A good one asked the questions "What the hell happened to him after Apollo 13" and "who did this guy piss off to disappear into obscurity?"
Cinematographers/DP's are rarely celebrities, but here's a good answer to your question. Dean Cundey went from Halloween (1,2,3), The Fog, The Thing, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, Rock 'N' Roll High School, Psycho II, Romancing the Stone, Back to the Future (1,2,3), Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Tales From the Crypt's "And All Through the House," Hook, Death Becomes Her, The Flintstones, Jurassic Park, Casper, and Apollo 13; to Camp Rock, Flubber, and Jack and Jill.
It's not because he flipped off Spielberg or cursed out a studio chief. Here's what Dean himself has to say...

Sinful Celluloid – You’ve done some of the biggest films in History, what brought you to this film?share
DEAN CUNDEY –I’ve worked on big movies and as I’ve watched the progression of big movies now, I think we get to be a cog in the wheel. A piece of the puzzle. Where so much of the work that surrounds what I do is done by second unit or visual effects people, so it’s harder to be the creative force behind the visuals because it gets divided up so much. So I’ve really gotten into smaller, indie films where one can be completely involved in the creation of the look and the telling of the story and so forth. When I read the script for this one, I said, Ah. This is unique and different. It’s not the same as kids in a house in the woods or anything that we’ve seen before. It really has a unique point of view. So I was very intrigued. Then when I met Nick (Simon) I realized that he was actually a film maker not a guy that wanted to make a movie so he could become famous.
