I totally agree. She brings a certain undeniable qualify to every scene she's in. Watching her in Primal Fear right now and she's just luminous!

Seems youth wins over talent, unfortunately way too often. Academy too busy giving out Oscars to starlets, so they can make $$ off them for years to come.

One film she could well have been nominated for was Pretty Hattie's Baby (1991) but the film was never released for some reason. She played an alcoholic who adopts a white baby in the 1950s. There is some crazy footage of her performance on YouTube.

I’d certainly have given her a Best Actress nomination for Passion Fish, and a win for Clemency. Perhaps a supporting nomination for Star Trek First Contact, too (serious... a great performance in an outstanding popcorn movie)... and she’d be awfully close for her tiny but commanding role in 12 Years a Slave.

Superb actress, yes.
