How will the landscape change without him?

Let's face it, Harvey Weinstein is the sole man responsible for the last 30 years in cinema, which is tragic in and of itself, not because of the abuse he enacted, but because real artists surely were not able to thrive thanks to him, since he pushed his cronies into roles. It's a very strange thing, in the old days, the public made the stars. Now they are rammed down our throats by Harvey Weinstein. All of them. Do people really care about the new Matt Damon movie? George Clooney movie? Nicole Kidman movie? No. He forces them into projects, we have no choice. We've been robbed of choice. Just like the women he attacked were robbed of their dignities and careers.

Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Ben Affleck, Naomi Watts, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, and so many others, all owe everything to Weinstein. He was instrumental even in shaping the world, Obama was elected in great part thanks to him. So I have to wonder, what will happen without him? That is, if he in fact is truly finished or is this just a forced vacation, which judging by the hypocritical Golden Globes, is what it is.

Good question...but were so many of those named stars owing so much to him? Judi Dench?

yes he got her into movies and so many others, he is responsible for what they now call the golden age of british cinema, all those shitty dramatic films that won oscars, all his. I think he has defined the oscars basically.

Judi Dench's career was well esteemed and established before Weinstein came along, so no, she doesn't owe him everything.

I know, it's hard to be proven wrong, isn't it. But most people, once they've reached maturity, know how to handle it with at least a semblance of grace.

We'll probably see a decline in the number of "Oscar-bait" dramas, and I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Most of them held little interest for me, so that might be a plus. But it's not like the twerps who run modern Hollywood will take this as a chance to bring in new talent and try new things, they'll probably just step up the remakes and comic-based franchises.

It will be EASY to continue on without Harvey, The Weinstein Company were relatively small compared to the huge conglomerate's running Hollywood. Really, nobody could stand him either and there are much bigger players out there than him. That's a big stretch labelling him responsible for the last 30 years of cinema, no way in the world.

Actually, his influence was more based on his work as a distributor than as a producer. He produced oscar-bait film to be sure, and I understand he found or controlled distribution for many more. That didn't necessarily get his name of the credits, but it got his fingers in the pie, so to speak, a lot if pies.

I've actually heard he arranged for the distribution of a lot of small quality films, so he may be missed in some small way.

Point is that Hollywood won’t stop turning without him, the show must go on as they say.
