Harvey messed up by HARASSING the actresses. i think there's a difference between casting couch and what Harvey did.
shareAgreed pay for play will still be a big thing. HOWEVER I think it'll be easier for women to combat it now (if they so choose) thanks to social media and mainstream news media. I think the music industry will be a harder nut to crack because nobody really respect music artist the same as they do actors. The modeling industry is a grey area, i'm from that world.
shareI believe this is true, casting couches go both ways there are people that will offer themselves to get a leg up, it is up to the other party to resist because they in the end get the short end of the stick if it ever goes wrong. While I don't care for harassment, I also don't get to upset about it because its another one of those things that is often abused and not evenly enforced.

It is really weird that Mr. Weinstein seemed to hit on SO many women, indiscriminately! I mean, if artists want to date/sleep-with/marry these rich benefactors/employers/whatever, that's fine. But since there are plenty of starving artists in Hollywood, why did Mr. Weinstein have to just come on so strong to seemingly EVERYBODY?? It's very strange. Plenty of actresses/models would have called him up on their own!
I think he must be somewhat sadistic, and enjoyed cornering women he could tell didn't want him (?) That was probably part of the thrill for him...

He came on soft but doesn't appear to be that he is not used to be being told no, at which point he came on harder cause he's not used to rejection most of us know to move on and invest in another girl but harvey is all about winning he never wants to loose so he ups the ante at that point its not even about the girl its about the perception that he was rejected. Hence the whole your embarrasing me dialog in the tapes. Notice that he initially tries to shew her away after being rejected bit then changes his attitude when he realizes he will be percieved as being rejected. Like he kept pleading with her not to embarass him in his hotel which he had been in for years. He may even have intended to just have her stay in the hotel for 5 minutes then see her off as if he rejected her or something. It could havbeen a ploy to get her in the room but I'm convinced it wasn't about the woman at that point.
I'm pretty sure there were plenty of starving artists. In fact I'm pretty sure there are some of the artists comming out now that did accept his advances back then but are now taking a stand against him as they still feel victimised. The dialog didn't sound like a sadist. Sadists usually start out charming and turn sadistic after they've formed a codependency bond with a low esteem woman. Don't get me wrong he may have had submissive women on the side but I don' see evidence of general sadism in the tapes. More like just a control artist.

That did sound strange to me on the tape...like, how is she embarrasing him by refusing to go into his room? It's not like she's causing a scene....people talk in hallways all the time.

For the narcissistic control type the thought of a woman publicly rejecting them drives these types of men crazy. I've seen this on the streets in one case a girl got shot in the face because she stood up to a man that was beating up his girlfriend. The man was used to controlling woman on the streets(Prostitutes) through drugs and the girl that stood up to him was one of his women. had she done this in private I'm sure she would have just gotton beat up. These type of men say stuff like "She's disrespecting me". This case sounds the same except that the man is a professional and punishes women through other means, these types of men are trying to be the ultimate alpha and any indication that they arn't getting what they want is considered embarrasing to other men which they view them selves as being superior to them.

Which is why he was so easily able to control up comming actresses that were desperate and now hate them selves for accepting his advances. The women that rejected his advances were denied into entry level hollywood and no on is taking their claims seriously. Its only the artists that gave in that are famous enough to take an effective stand against him. At least they have taken a stand though more need to come forward.

Its just a suspicion but I'm pretty sure the high name actresses that are comming forward with complaints but they are not being as forth comming with the details of the encounter. But I'm glad they are helping in the investigation. I don't think the journalist gave in. She had no reason too. Giving in would actually have hurt her if it ever got out.

One thing that's really (additionally) bad about this whole mess is Mr. Weinstein made some of the only classy, intelligent films in Hollywood. So...really, it's a bummer on THAT level he won't be working any more.

Yea i agree with this. It sucks but I think Holly wood will remain the place were a decent upcomming actress still won't be able to compete with another upcomming actress that is willing to spread her legs. And the second actress will actually feel empowered by her sexuality. Sex positive 3rd wave feminism has failed the first actress and yet benefits the powerful men in the industry.
I have no faith that the studios and major production companies have any real desire to clean house, to stop the abuses, or to make better working conditions for actors.
HOWEVER. I think there's a good possibility that investors will stop letting producers have such a good time on their dime, why should they invest in a film where someone's mistress is cast in the lead, instead of the best possible actress for that role? Financial motives are always stronger than moral ones.
