It's 2011 and there are STILL no black female A-list actresses!

I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen, since Hollywood is so backward in reflecting the world's diversity on-screen.

There are so many drop-dead-gorgeous black actresses, like Gabrielle Union, that I wanna see in big-budget films, but Hollywood insists on only hyping white or mixed race females.
That's not my preference, so me (and every black male I've ever discussed this with) are always left unimpressed with the female leads.

I doubt Hollywood will lose sleep over it, but there are plenty of black people (including myself) who don't and won't ever pay to see any of the films they churn out when we're barely represented in them.

is well on her way.

True prandel . . . but name some more.

It is neither wealth nor splendor, but tranquility and occupation which give happiness.

Or name some with dark skin like Gabby. That's more of an issue I think.

Halle Berry is 44 years old and she is also HALF WHITE! The Op has a point in America a woman has to be light skinned and mixed in order to become a leading lady. The racism is so entrenched in the USA it is disgusting!

The last true black leading lady was Whoopi Goldberg in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

I agree with the OP Hollywood seems to place a lot of emphasis on mixed race women or light skinned black women. Gabrielle Union is a talented actress yet she seems to be segregated in Tyler Perry type of films or black romantic comedies. Gabrielle is a good actress that deserves good film roles.

Neo Ned was a great film that unfortunately did NOT get distribution due to the controversial subject matter. I really thought Neo Ned was going to be Gabrielle's breakthrough she won a lot of awards for that indie film.

Halle Berry is NO longer A list she hasn't had a hit movie in almost a decade. Please do not include the X MEN franchise because that's an established film genre.

Zoe Saldana has the possibility to become A list IF she can score a hit movie ON her own.

Neither of them are black. You're just proving my point. You have FAILED to name any black women!
They're bi-racial, in case you're confused.

I said BLACK women. Not bi-racial or mixed race.

@Black Magic

Both of these women are black, and have made it VERY clear that they identify as such. Even Berry's own mama, who is white, told her as a teen that suicSo what if they're bi-racial---they still look more like BLACK women than anything else, and that is how Hollywood sees them---don't be fooled. There's enough BS and arguments on each of these actresses' boards about how they'e not "black enough" and how they only get pars because they're "light-skinned" despite the fact that neither one of the are even remotely what you would light-skinned. People think bi-racial actresses get a fast track to the top simply BECAUSE they are bi-racial---tell that to Paula Patton, who couldn't find any work for a year before she got the role in PRECIOUS. Zoe Saldana was in the biz just over a decade before she worked her way up to leading roles. And even Halle Berry has said there were parts she couldn't get, and even after her Oscar, she said she STILL had to look hard for good parts (she would wind up making her own production company and created the DOROTHY DANDRIDGE movie, which was very good.)

Seriously, you know how Hollywood works, they only allow one black star at a time to make it anyway. That's
