You're Not You had flaws but her performance was incredible. I can't believe she wasn't nominated for an Oscar

To my knowledge, neither movie was shown in a box office movie theater. At least not in my area they weren't. Pretty hard to win an Oscar when that happens. I ended up buying a DVD of each movie on EBay.

Of the two, I liked "You're Not You" the best. Hilary did an awesome job in that film, but because of her character's disease, you have to turn on the subtitles to understand what she is saying. Her co-star, Emmy Rossum, was also equally as good. You could really feel the chemistry between the two.

SPOILER ALERT: "The Homesman" was good too. It showed the hard times of the Old West and how determined Hilary was to accomplish what she set out to do. But what spoiled it for me was when Hilary's character died well before the end of the movie and in the unexpected way it happened. For me, that was a total bummer!!

Can anyone out there think of an actor/actress who won an Oscar in a film that was never shown in a movie theater??

Get me another beer, Dragon Lady! This one's empty. - Eastwood in "Gran Torino"

I haven't seen The Homesman, because admittedly, I didn't really get into it because it was a western movie and it was a long movie. Though I did like Clint Eastwood films in Any Which Way But Loose. I guess it was because it was that long I didn't watch it. I should have. I got it on Netflix. It even had Meryl Streep (a film where both Hilary and Meryl actually appear together!) and Tommy Lee Jones. I'll have to really watch it again and appreciate the performances and story. S

I haven't seen You're Not You yet, but I'm going to soon. Julianne Moore also appeared in a, somewhat, similar movie in "Still Alice." I think Hilary deserves an Oscar in some movies she made also. But again, perhaps Julianne more also can do it. However, I think also having been an Executive Producer, having her "run," Hilary is also able to pick movies. Although the known controversy with what had happened before, I always loved her and specifically her movies at heart. So, even though some movies are made to TV/DVD she can still "afford" these movies and have a good run and career. Some notably known actresses are in the spotlight now; and though such reality, Hilary does indeed still deserves a performance in movies and her Oscar-worthy performances. Of course, I can also appreciate wanting to maintain being "low-key" even in later of one's career in exchange to focus more in personal/family time. :) I will always love Hilary's movies and her background.
