Lousy actor

why is he in so many films?

I neither read nor write long-winded essays on the IMDB.

reply

Because directors like him and that he is a good actor

Lara Croft Himiko! The First Sun Queen! This is Yamatai.

reply

As lousy as you say he is, he's making millions of dollars in Hollywood movies.....you're making lame insults on imdb message boards!

reply

Well for a 'lousy' actor he's one of my favourites and one of Britains best in my view.

If you dislike him, don't watch his movies.

Statham is one of the best at what he does. He may not have the greatest range or depth as an actor and needs to avoid accents, but he's aware of his abilities and knows how and when to stretch himself. Plus, he's great to watch and has a genuine physical presence on screen. Not just in fight scenes, but the way he uses his body. I'm glad he's had such a great year and his some interesting projects ahead.

You people need to grow up and understand what REAL acting is. It's not posing, making faces, acting tough for no reason. This guy is a complete NO TALENT and a JOKE

reply

As I said on your other post - I like him! He's the strong, silent type!

reply

Unfortunately I tend to agree. I like Statham but he is what he is, a decent at best actor. I wouldn't say that he is absolutely awful (because no way is he anywhere near from being as bad as Steven Seagal or Adam Sandler for instance), but he is not a necessarily good actor neither.

reply

He's not an actor, and he doesn't need to be. He's a Movie Star and he sells tickets. That is the only thing about which the film industry cares. Sheesh!

Why are you so fucking bitter? I said that Statham is not a "good actor", but do you really have tears falling from your eyes because of how unwatchable he might be? If your answer is yes, you clearly never seen some REALLY painfully bad acting. Remember Keanu Reeves in Dracula? THIS was some shitty ass unwatchable acting. I would even go as far as to say that as much as I tried to enjoy the movie (because overall it was a well crafted flick), he totally ruined it for me. Unfortunately, bad acting = lower quality. Maybe if Statham would try to do a dramatic role like let's say... Adrien Brody in The Pianist, well then yes... He might very well ruin the whole thing. But as far as I know he never tried and seems to know his limits so... Why do you come here to insult people who enjoy him? Plus... I actually think that he did an amazing comedic performance in Spy.

reply

And he's better than literally everyone else in Fate of the Furious.

reply

Yeah well... The bar is not high to be honnest lol. But yeah there's that.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis or Christian Bale (among many others) sell tickets as well and yet are outstanding actors (some will say that DiCaprio is overrated and even though I agree... I can't deny to Caesar what goes to Caesar, he was still amazing in some movies).

I have no problems with awful "actors" like Arnold Schwarzenegger to be bankable as well because well... We need entertainment. And I'd rather see the painful acting of a charismatic guy like him on screen than an annoying hack like Chris Pratt. How exactly did this guy manage to get the leads in some huge productions (with some total pieces of shit like Jurrasic World that we just want to forget) is beyond my comprehension. Well... I say this but I actually liked his acting in Moneyball (sure Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill both stole the show but he did a decent job with what he had to do).

Bottom line, I put Statham more in the Schwarzenegger's category. He is not THIS bad, but he is no Gregory Peck or Dustin Hoffman neither. He is a cool entertainer and I have no problem with him being famous and selling tickets. Even though he never played (and probably never will) a part in a Citizen Kane, he does what people want to see from him and give their money for it. If we take a hack like Adam Sandler in another hand, the guy still makes money despite the fact that most people agree that his garbage films are getting worse and worse. The last Sandler's movie that I can say was decent and funny in its way, was 50 First Dates... That was over 10 fucking years ago. His career in his prime lasted less than 10 years. Sure Arnold has done nothing worth to brag about in the last 20 years but at least he had a successful career for almost 20 years or so.
