Is Sam this generation's Lon Chaney?

I think Sam is a genius actor and sometimes it is hard to tell its him in films because he seems to be the newest 'man of a thousand faces.' And to whomever thinks he plays the same character in every film should compare his acting in say, The Green Mile to his acting in Iron Man 2 for instance.

What a great actor!

i only discovered Sam Rockwell last year, in The Way, Way Back, and have been on a bit of a binge catching up on his career. Amazing intuitive talent. The idea that he plays the same character in every film always perplexed me. i'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite performance because each is so individual that it is nearly impossible to compare. Some might not be as dynamic as others, but there is true artistry in every character he creates.

Absolutely do watch Moon. Moon was the first Sam Rockwell movie i watched after The Way, Way Back put him on my radar.

And, i just watched it again today. Incredible incredible movie and performance. colshpots is right - Moon may well be Mr. Rockwell's best performance to date.

When i came here looking for more information on Sam Rockwell movies i was told to watch Moon, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Snow Angels, and Conviction. Catch those when you have time but make sure you check out 7 Psychopaths soon!

Would love to hear what you think of the movies and Mr. Rockwell after watching.

When you get through all his well known films be sure to check out his early indie roles like box of moonlight and lawn dogs... Two of his best performances and the films that kick started his career.... Oh and galaxy quest :D

I enjoyed Box Of Moonlight and Lawn Dogs.

Galaxy Quest - Sam Rockwell Steals the Movie! Since he is not a lead you need to make sure you keep an eye on him everytime he is on screen; even when he is not speaking or featured. TOOOO Funny! Awesome recommendation.

@Barney, thanks for the suggestions on where to start with his Indy work.
